SUPPORT, ADVOCACY, AND PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR THE K-12 HUMAN RESOURCE PROFESSIONAL
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MESSAGE
Hello everyone!
The TWIO Week Ten is here for your reading pleasure! Please continue to pay particular attention to the bills on special education, SB 5311 in the Senate Ways & Means Committee and HB 1436 in the House. Our first career fair in Spokane went very well. We had over 320 candidates and 100 Districts/Organizations there. The career fair in Tacoma is March 28 to be held at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and registration for recruiters is closed, however candidates may still register at a reduced rate until 3:00 on the 27th and for $40 thereafter. There is still time to register for the Next Level bargaining workshop on the East Side of the state to be held at the East Valley SD in cooperation with Stevens Clay attorneys. The March Worker's Compensation series is in full swing with one session to go. We now have the April 11 Retirement webinar open for registration at the link below and it is FREE so don't forget to sign up.
It is that time of the year to think about running for WSPA president. If you are interested in running or if you want to nominate someone, please do so HERE. The successful candidate will serve on the board for three years. Year 1-President Elect, Year 2-President, Year 3-Past President. The deadline for nominations for President is March 30, 2023. Are you interested in being a Region Representative? Check with your current Region Reps and let them know you are interested. Each year, one of the Region Rep positions is open and I encourage all members to consider stepping up for one of these opportunities in your region. Remember it takes all of us to make WSPA work.

Funny for the week: Did you hear about the man who was hospitalized with six plastic horses inside him? The doctor described his condition as STABLE....
Gotta do one more horse funny: A talking horse walks into a bar and approaches the manager, "Excuse me, good sir," the horse says, "are you hiring?" The manager looks the horse up and down and says, "Sorry, pal. Why don't you try the circus?" The horse nickers, "Why would the circus need a bartender?"

Unemployment Insurance: Sign up now for upcoming SOC code webinars
Learn more about Standard Occupational Classification codes on May 20 or June 3
Do you have questions about Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes? Sign up for one of our upcoming webinars!
All employers will be required to report SOC codes when they submit their quarterly tax reports starting with their fourth quarter 2022 report. At that time, you could get a penalty for incorrect SOC reporting. Reporting SOC codes is currently optional and is available only to single filers.
Upcoming webinars
If you have questions or want to learn more about using SOC codes, register for one of our free webinars.
During these webinars, we’ll talk about:
- What are SOC codes?
- When are SOC codes mandatory?
- How to look up SOC codes.
- How to add SOC codes with keyed or imported wage data.
Note: We will provide the same information in both webinars. However, questions could vary in each webinar, so you are welcome to sign up for both.
What is SOC?
SOC is a federal coding system that helps government agencies and private businesses compare occupational data.
In 2019, the Washington State Legislature passed a law requiring employers to report SOC codes in their quarterly reports for unemployment insurance.
Other resources on SOC
- Watch this short video.
- Try out the SOC code search tool. Under “Occupation Keyword Search” you can search by keyword, SOC code or industry.
