Hello everyone!
The TWIO Senate Operating and Capital Budget and TWIO Week 11 are here for your reading pleasure! Activity is increasing and now is the time to weigh in if that is what you plan to do. The career fair in Tacoma is tomorrow, March 28 to be held at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and registration for recruiters is closed, however candidates may still register at a reduced rate until 3:00 on the 27th and for $40 thereafter. We now have the April 11 Retirement webinar open for registration at the link below and it is FREE so don't forget to sign up.
There is still five days left if you are thinking about running for WSPA president. If you are interested in running or if you want to nominate someone, please do so HERE. The successful candidate will serve on the board for three years. Year 1-President Elect, Year 2-President, Year 3-Past President. The deadline for nominations for President is March 30, 2023. Are you interested in being a Region Representative? Check with your current Region Reps and let them know you are interested. Each year, one of the Region Rep positions is open and I encourage all members to consider stepping up for one of these opportunities in your region. Remember it takes all of us to make WSPA work.
Member Request this week:
We are considering moving more paperless and to an electronic personnel files and document storage solution. I’d like to hear from districts that have made this transition. What system do you use? Would you recommend it? Anything else we should know?
Thank you!

Funny for the week:
At a party, a young wife admonished her husband, “That’s the fourth time you’ve gone back for ice cream and cake. Doesn’t it embarrass you?” “Why should it?” answered her spouse. “I keep telling them it’s for you.”
Have a great week everyone!

A colleague is wondering if anyone employs a procurement specialist, and if so, would you please share the job description, salary, and whether or not it is a represented position.
A district is wondering how other districts handle IEP days. Does the teacher get a substitute for IEP preparation, meetings, etc., or do they get paid for an additional day for these activities?
A district is wondering if any other districts have a resource for Substitute Guidelines.
Do you have questions about Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes? Sign up for one of our upcoming webinars!
All employers will be required to report SOC codes when they submit their quarterly tax reports starting with their fourth quarter 2022 report. At that time, you could get a penalty for incorrect SOC reporting. Reporting SOC codes is currently optional and is available only to single filers.
If you have questions or want to learn more about using SOC codes, register for one of our free webinars.
During these webinars, we’ll talk about:
Note: We will provide the same information in both webinars. However, questions could vary in each webinar, so you are welcome to sign up for both.
SOC is a federal coding system that helps government agencies and private businesses compare occupational data.
In 2019, the Washington State Legislature passed a law requiring employers to report SOC codes in their quarterly reports for unemployment insurance.
Dan Steele, WASA Assistant Executive Director, Government Relations and WSPA Legislative Liaison has completed a 2022 End of Session Report and you can find it here.
The End of Session Reports includes full details of the 2022 Supplemental Operating Budget and the 2022 Supplemental Capital Budget, along with a comprehensive review of the many education-related bills the Legislature addressed this session.
