SUPPORT, ADVOCACY, AND PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR THE K-12 HUMAN RESOURCE PROFESSIONAL
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MESSAGE
Thank you for your grace and patience as we finalize the transition between membership platforms. I am incredibly excited about what our new system has to offer and appreciate you giving me the space to learn and grow. Each week will only get better!
There are a couple of things I want to make you aware of in this week's blog.
- Please read the WSPA News to Know carefully. It contains information on membership renewal and information about a short survey I am asking you to complete.
- Check out the new blog section titled, WSPA by the Numbers. I will keep up-to-date numbers for you on WSPA membership. Let's all work together to encourage others to join and bring these numbers up!
- I'm very excited to try out the Member Requests section so be sure to email me any requests you have and I'll get them posted next week.
- Paul Clay is offering a webinar titled, "Employee Termination for Vaccine Non-Compliance" tomorrow, September 21 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Registration information can be found in the Professional Development Opportunities section. You can also register for the School Law Conference and Fall HELP-HR Writing Skills workshops.
- Lastly, all previous WSPA this Week blogs will be archived and can be found in the section at the bottom of this page, Past WSPA this Week Blogs.
I know right now you are being handed "opportunities to learn" that you never thought you would experience. I also know that you are an incredibly talented, resilient, and caring group of individuals. There is no one I would have more faith in than each of you to support and care for your employees as we walk through these trying times.
Thank you for everything you do. You are appreciated!

Unemployment Insurance: Sign up now for upcoming SOC code webinars
Learn more about Standard Occupational Classification codes on May 20 or June 3
Do you have questions about Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes? Sign up for one of our upcoming webinars!
All employers will be required to report SOC codes when they submit their quarterly tax reports starting with their fourth quarter 2022 report. At that time, you could get a penalty for incorrect SOC reporting. Reporting SOC codes is currently optional and is available only to single filers.
Upcoming webinars
If you have questions or want to learn more about using SOC codes, register for one of our free webinars.
During these webinars, we’ll talk about:
- What are SOC codes?
- When are SOC codes mandatory?
- How to look up SOC codes.
- How to add SOC codes with keyed or imported wage data.
Note: We will provide the same information in both webinars. However, questions could vary in each webinar, so you are welcome to sign up for both.
What is SOC?
SOC is a federal coding system that helps government agencies and private businesses compare occupational data.
In 2019, the Washington State Legislature passed a law requiring employers to report SOC codes in their quarterly reports for unemployment insurance.
Other resources on SOC
- Watch this short video.
- Try out the SOC code search tool. Under “Occupation Keyword Search” you can search by keyword, SOC code or industry.
