National standards for Human Resource professionals have been recently developed by the American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA). AASPA’s Executive Director, Kelly Coash Johnson, will be sharing an overview of these standards and their application. In this session, participants will learn how to use the Human Capital Leadership Standards to improve leadership, enhance strategic planning, and assess competence in each area of human capital management. AASPA’s Executive Director will be joined by Highline HR administrators and AASPA’s region one representative, Dr. Steve Grubb and his Highline school district colleague, Dr. Chris Larsen. The session will be an interactive introduction to the standards, using examples from Washington school districts.
Presentation description
Walking through and talking through the staffing process, specifically with a focus on certificated staffing allocations. Focusing on who is involved, timelines to consider, and tools that can help in the process.
In our current society, there are multiple terms thrown around that seem hard and come with deep history. As we build common language, we can fully understand the language and context to build bridging of understanding.
Do you set your new administrators up for success? We will show an example of a mentor program designed with the NAESP mentor competencies that will help your new Principals, Certificated Directors and Classified directors succeed.
In this presentation I’ll provide evidence on the areas of the teacher labor market where there are more extensive staffing challenges, why these exist, and how student teaching may be a leverage point to send clearer signals about the labor market needs of schools and improve the development and preparation of teacher candidates.
As we build our practices in leading with equity, we learn to flip the script on deficit mindset and honor resilience in our communities most harm in our system. We will explore how can we support and value the cultural abundance of our students and educators.
Research shows that a significantly high percentage of student teachers get hired in the same district where they student taught. Come hear how one district used that research to change their practice around student teacher placement and what has evolved from that partnership.
